Information
reaching shybellmediaonline.blogspot.com has it that United Arab Emirate-owned
telecommunications firm, Etisalat Nigeria on Friday laid off over 2,000
permanent staff across the country.
It was further
gathered that the network operator is making moves to hire the services
contract staff to run the operations of the company as the company is said to
be facing financial down time and can no longer meet its obligation of paying
some of its permanent staff. However, the retrenched workers were paid off
severance benefits.
A reliable
source affected by the shocking development said: “We were asked to leave and
our cheques handed to us yesterday, it is unfortunate that I am again back to
the Job market.” the source added.
